Inspiration and Philosophy

Our recent work (Collections: Natural, Ethereal, Temporal Cellular and Fractional), is inspired by the changes in nature. The philosophy stems from the notion of environmental changes on surfaces through time, which are of geologic and human origin. Their aesthetics realistically depict natural cracks in stones, the effect of corrosion on metal or the effect of hydrological drought on soil (Temporal and Natural). In addition, we are equally interested in the effect of change on inner structures (see our Cellular collection).

Furthermore, the beauty of outer space and the uniformity of entropy is incorporated into our Ethereal and Fractional collections. The awareness of "scars" in nature, emphasising how fragile and changeable our Earth really is, outlines our ethical framework. Consequently, we suggest the notion of surface as a place where the inner and outer worlds are equally affected by changes in the environment. By making the effect visible and outlining its aesthetics, we invite the viewer to consider the implications of what is hidden: the cause itself.

Through a critical and creative framework, we have crafted our artworks by not interfering with or changing their qualitative attributes – their natural aesthetics are preserved. The Officina Coppola team is led by its founder, Donato Coppola.

My inspiration is consistently organic. I'm influenced by geologic visual references, forests, landscapes of Bernalda (Matera). I am interested in the degradation of time and its action on things.
